One popular dish for Japanese people, especially for breakfast, is to put a raw egg on rice, called "Tamago Kake Gohan." Sometimes it is simply referred to as "TKG." Basically it is only steamed rice mixed with a fresh raw egg and soy sauce. Some people like to have this for breakfast everyday along with Miso Soup.
It's not so common to eat raw eggs in the US, mainly because of fear of salmonella poisoning. The only time I've ever seen or heard of someone eating raw eggs back home was someone that was exteremly into health and fitness. Most things raw in the U.S are usually considered too risky to eat, so usually people prefer to try and cook out any possibilty of dangerous bacteria being in the food. Unfortunately this lowers the quality of the flavor and texture for some things.
If you come to Japan, we recommend you to try this TKG for breakfast sometime.
