Lunch boxes in Japan are called Bento. Unlike the larger classic metal lunch box that I used to carry in grade school with He-Man on the side of it, Japanese prefer a smaller more tightly sealed plastic box. They also have insulated carrying bags for them too to help maintain the warm or cold temperature. Japanese children also like to have their favorite cartoon characters decorated on their lunch boxes, just as I did. Even the adults usually carry their lunches in these type of boxes, just maybe not always with the cute little characters on them. However, do not be surprised if you do see adults carrying ones with cute little characters on them as that is a whole other topic about Japan.

子供たちは、お弁当にアニメキャラクターが描かれたキャラ弁が好きなようで、自分もやってみたりする。大人でもキャラクターは描かれていない小さいお弁当箱を使っていることが多いが、時には大人のお弁当でも、このようなアニメキャラクターの描かれたキャラ弁当を目にすることもあるだろう。
How to eat a Japanese Bento
Step 1: Unwrap the pretty hankerchief.
Step 2: Oh...Look at the cute little miffy bunny. Now remove the blue rubberband.
Step 3: Unstack the trays, appreciate the food, and then enjoy.
