Driving Etiquette　日本の運転マナー

I find Japanese drivers to be very courteous compared to the US. Of course the US has a wide variety of traffic habits based on where you live. In my area of Japan, if you see a car trying to pull out into the street it is pretty much expected for you to be courteous and yield to them. And what you get in return is usually a slight head bow and kind raise of the hand to show their appreciation for the act. And if you're lucky, you'll get the emergency lights flashed at you a couple of times once they're in front of you.

日本人の運転はアメリカ人に比べて礼儀正しいことが分かった。
日本もアメリカもそうだが、住んでいる地域によってマナーなどが違ってくる。

いま、僕が日本で住んでいるところでは、車が合流しようとしている場合は、とても親切に譲ってくれる。そして驚いたことに入れてもらう時に、運転手が軽く頭を下げたり、手を挙げて感謝の気持ちを表すのだ。さらには、ハザードランプで、入れてくれた運転手に２・３回合図をするのだ。

そもそも、海外では「ありがとう」ということを意図するためにハザードランプを点灯をすることはないのかもしれない。おそらく渋滞をしていたり、大雨で前が見えなかったりするときに後続の車に知らせるために、ハザードランプを点灯させるのだろうが、感謝の気持ちを表すのは日本独自の文化なのだろうか？
